WELCOME TO BARKISLAND CC!
Barkisland Cricket Club is based in Calderdale, situated on high ground between Halifax and Huddersfield (787 feet above sea level). In 2008 we will be playing in the Premiership of the Huddersfield Drakes League after we were promoted from the Frank Platt Conference, having finished top of the table in 2007

The teams in the Huddersfield Drakes League play matches of 50 overs per side throughout the summer months, with 26 games scheduled for the 2008 season. Of course on top of this, there are also the cup games to come, so it’s always a busy season!
We are a club that is always looking to improve both on the field and behind the scenes. Last year, we were honoured to have the services of former Zimbabwe international Tinashe Panyangara and in 2008 we hope to again secure a professional of high quality.
We are also in the process of gaining the ECB Clubmark standard, which is a seal of approval from the England & Wales Cricket Board. This means that the club is providing coaching and guidance to its young players and equal opportunities for all players, regardless of race or gender as well as adhering to ECB rules and regulations regarding the running of the club.
We at Barkisland are also very proud of the community dimension to the club, with a thriving juniors section, three adult sides and a wide range of social events all bringing the village together. President Brian Winrow was a long-time player and former captain for the team and his enthusiasm has rubbed off onto his son Paul, who has now taken up the reins as first-team skipper. Our community role is further shown by the fact that at the current time we have a total of 45 people associated with the running of the club, the vast majority from the village itself.

The 2007 cricket season saw Barkisland Cricket Club secure the services of Tinashe Panyangara, the Zimbabwean test and one day international all rounder. Tinashe is the first Zimbabwean overseas player at Barkisland. He has followed in the foot steps of Aussie Brad Roworth, who was the clubs overseas player in 2006. In 2004 the giant seam bowling Kiwi Ryan Webster was signed and prior to that another Aussie, Darren Ettridge, had two years as overseas player (2003 and 2002). The first overseas player at Barkisland, following the clubs move into the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League, was Aussie Steve Whittingham.
