Bowling changes
THE ECB fast bowling directives have changed following a two-year consultation process. Under 15 players can now bowl longer spells and more overs in a day and under 16s and under 17s can bowl an extra over per spell, but under 18s and under 19s have had the total number of overs they can deliver per day reduced from 21 to 18. These guidelines, designed to protect young players from injury, will come into effect for the 2010 season. NEW GUIDELINES - Up to 13 years old, 5 overs per spell and 10 maximum per day; 14/15, 6 and 12; 16/17, 7 and 18; 18/19, 7 and 18.

Barkisland Cricket Club Under 13s Strike Gold
On Thursday 6th August 2009, Barkisland Cricket Club's Under 13s side struck gold to win the Bramleys Halifax Junior Cricket League (Under 13s South Section). In a closely fought contest which was nail biting at times, Barkisland beat Augustinian by 6 wickets.
Augustinians totalled 77 for 4 in their 20 overs. In reply Barkisland lost a couple of early wickets but Captain, Charlie Cocking lead by example with an outstanding 28 retired with good support from Jake Finch, Richard Bullough and Ted Fraine who hit the winning runs. Manager, Andrew Fraine paid tribute to his squad by saying "I am very proud of my full squad of players. All have played their part in making this season a resounding success. I would like to give special mention to my captain Charlie Cocking whose attitude and commitment has been flawless and he has encouraged and lead his team from the front at all times. It been a great honour to coach them and see the commitment they bring to each session. I would also like to give mention to Dave Weston for the coaching sessions he provided during the close season and also on Tuesday nights. We can all see that this has had unquantifiable benefits."

Match Report v Rastrick 26/5/09
Last Tuesday we welcomed the previously unbeaten Rastrick side. Having lost the toss we were asked to bat and a superb opening stand between Elliot Craven and Myles Smithies set us on out way. The stand had reached 35 before Myles decided to go walkabout and was stumped for 21. Elliot was forced to retire after hitting 26 valuable runs. Setting Rastrick a target of 83 we quickly made inroads into the Rastrick line up up with the pick of the bowlers being Callum Holdroyd who took a wicket with his first ball and finished with figures of 3-7. There were also useful contributions from George Palin (1-2), Connor Friend (1-3) and Ben Keegan (1-2). From both Steve and my point of view the best thing about the night was the standard of the fielding which on a cold night was outstanding. Special mention to Joe Brooke who took hits to both his face and hand, hope the shiner wasn't too bad Joe!
